The Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP are the new handheld systems.

left is the psp, right is the ds

The nintendo DS has duel screens, and a touch screen, but just comparing the graphics made up my mind.

Ridge Racer Ds vs. Ridge Racers (PSP)

Labelling the screenshots might help, although I'm assuming the PSP is the picture on the right, which is pretty amazing.

What about it? It's not being compared because it's not a handheld.

Thanks for posting this Vicious, I had no idea what the differences between the two were.

I said the ds one then the psp one, then I posted the ds screen shot, then the psp screen shot. And the ds is the duel screen, so I thought ya could tell.

here's another example

The DS being the double screen first screenshot, the psp one being the wide single screen shot. They're not the same game, but they're both FPS.

Once again, PSP wins.  8)

I may buy a PSP when they come to the US, and maybe when the price goes down a bit. The PSP layout looks a lot like the Game Gear, I like the touch screen on the Nintendo DS but the unit as a whole looks a bit bulky.

The PSP started at the equivalent of about $185 in japan, and is being sold at a huge loss to Sony. Don't expect the price to drop for a long, long time after release.

They aren't available here yet right? How much are they going to retail for? On ebay they're running for between about $600-$1000+.

Probably won't know the exact US retail price until right before it comes out. EGM said it would probably be lower than the $185 jap price, but you can't be sure.

With that money I could buy an xbox, PS2, and a Gamecube with lots of games for each lol.

Yea, it's retarded to buy them for that much. If I buy one, it won't be for awhile. I don't really care much for handheld gaming, but the PSP does look nice.

Lol, I guess they have to work on the eject button.

Edit:

I got a nintendo Ds today and I found it quite fun with Super Mario 64 DS. It has all the clasic games with more game.

If people support it like they did the PS2 (if anyone remembers) I bet it will be somewhere around $99-150 when the stores are finaly fully supplyed.

Unless you're referring to Mario 64 and not all games in general, no it doesn't. It has a few of the classic games, but by no means all of them.

$250 seems like a lot for a PSP, but I am going to buy it on the 26th anyways.  But the Memory Stick Duo used by the PSP are nutsly expensive, and will problaby be sold out ($130 for a Gigabyte).  But one of the US versions come shipped with a Spider Man 2 movie made for the PSP (on its specially made UMD disk).

From what I have heard, the load times are long (due to the disk spinning), but the screen is amazing, it is wireless (802.11b), it can play mpeg 4 video files saved on the Memory Stick Duo, 3.5 hour rechargable battery, USB connectivity, and it looks awesome.

Yes I have my PSP by me now, it's great. When I watch movies, it loads fine, just when I put the Hockey game on it loads slow. I love the screen, it's slow clear. I can't wait until I can get a bigger chip so I can put my movies on it and more music, the chips are expensive though.

me and 3 friends from work are going to Swansea(Our nearest City, bout 10 mins drive away) at midnight(probabley before) to queue to get one. We plan on getting Ridge Racer/ GT4(Either of those) and I plan on an FPS. I have saved enough already though the price isnt confirmed. I have £280 and they are meant to retail at about £150, So I can buy 2 games and acessories. I cant wait. It should hit our shelfs later this month.

Hmm, just noticed this post. Anyways, a couple kids got DS when it first game out and I thought it was homosexual. Touch screens are cool for like 5 minutes until you hit it too hard and it breaks. A few days ago PSP came out and it caught my eye, I played with it for like 10 minutes and I'm craving one. So I'd definetly vote PSP to be the best handheld next to Sega Game Gear.

Do you happen to have Sonic The Hedgehog 2?  That was a great game on the Game Gear.

Too bad it required 8 AA batteries, though.  Great graphics for back in the day.

Anyways, I sold my game gear a while ago, sadly. It was the best handheld system out there!

I got my PSP today. I took it to college and within 10 seconds of me getting it out a crowd had gathered with people going "OMG hes got a psp I gotta see this!" and "Oh sweet look at the graphics." and "I have gotta get one. Where did you get it?".

It really is a great system, atleast I think so. My mom forces me to go to bed early on school nights, so I just watch Spider-Man 2 or play Hockey :P

Is the PSP compatible with PS2 games and DVDs? Only reason I think I would get one is for Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater, and GTA: San Andreas.
April 15, 2005, 11:51 PM

No you can't put PS2 games in it or DVDs. The DVDs are in a small UMD diskette form, and you can just download movies and put them on in mpeg4 (I think it's that?). But they are making games from the PS2 onto the PSP which is nice :)

Since I have one, and I am getting the other, I am happy. I really like the classics that I grew up with (Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, ect.) but then I like *SOME* of the new games.

Later this year there will be online play for DS so I will buy a game that supports that.

I'm with Meh on this one. They already released two gameboy consoles right after each other, so I'm expecting a long time before the next one comes out, and they still have to build up the game library on the DS too.

The DS is basically a gameboy. Look at the pricing. The type of games. Most were out on the gameboy advance.
