My CD drive stopped acknowledging a CD was in the drive, and hence hasn't been reading CDs, leaving me without many of my games. When I put a CD in, it doesn't ask to open folder/autoplay, the drive shows up as blank in "My Computer", and when I try playing a game that requires a CD it will ask to insert the CD even when it is in. When I right click on the drive and tell it to open, it opens.

My guess is the lens is broken, and I'll need to send it in to the manufacturer. Has anybody encountered this sort of problem before? Does anybody know of some sort of diagnostic software?

Probably not much you can do about it assuming you already tried things like switching cables and stuff.

If it's a plain CDROM then it's probably not worth getting it fixed, since those are so cheap nowadays.

Just go buy a dual layer dvd burner.  They're like $120 new, and I seem to recall that you have $100 to throw away :)

HAR, nay, not spending that $100 gives me $100 to spend on other stuff, stuff which I can get more of for the same price.

It's a DVD+CDRW Drive, it was only like $50 and I've already had it replaced once(for probably the same problem, at around this time last year).

Woot, found a USB2.0 CDRW Drive my dad bought awhile ago, guess I'll be using it while my old one gets replaced.
