Has anyone used any type of generic Linux wireless NIC drivers such as wlan-ng (http://www.linux-wlan.org/) for their wireless networking?

Unfortunately, my low-cost USB wireless adapter doesn't provide any Linux supporting drivers. I've tried using wlan-ng (link above), but have had no success. Is there anything else similar to wlan-ng available? I've looked through google and have not found anything promising....

What is the name brand and model number of your usb adapter?
They have a compatibility list here:

It's a Syntax USB-400 (Intersil Prism 3 chipset), I've heard some people were able to get it functioning with wlan-ng. But I've found that many people were unable to get it working with wlan-ng, under similar circumstances....

The installation of wlan-ng is a fairly complicated procedure with many possible wrong turns. I most likely went on one of those turns as I'm not very experienced with linux.

I'm really looking for a simpler alternative, but if anyone has experience with wlan-ng and would like to share, I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Here's a couple of links. If those don't work hit google.com/linux up.

I've already gone to both links, I've emailed the person of the first link asking him for more details of how he was able to get it working, he has yet to respond.
I've also already checked google.com/linux for anything I missed with google.com....

In most cases, if you've searched for it on google, I've probably already been there......

I think my problem could be solved if I could speak to someone that has successfully used the wlan-ng drivers.

TIA

I'm currently using Redhat 9.0, I downgraded after finding that the changes in Fedora Core 2 caused more problems to arise.

In that case here's a link to the RPM's:

Have you tryed these? You say you took a wrong turn. Are you getting errors? What are the errors?

The 3 packages had installed correctly, but upon boot sequence I have a message that tells me 'prism2_usb wlan0 device does not seem to be present'

The adapter was plugged into the USB port at the time, and the USB controllers were working.
