I've had this problem for some time and haven't been able to find a solution to it. When using notepad (my all-time favourite application) it will randomly close on me, causing me to lose anything I didn't save and losing track of where I was in large files. I've scanned for viruses and spyware, but nothing has turned up, they are both up to date. Has anybody ever encountered this kind of problem?

Sounds like a virus.

Format and reinstall. :)

Sounds like a bad suggestion. ;)

You should try letting someone (a friend, hopefully) send you notepad.exe. See if that does the same thing.

Well, at least you're not using emacs. Still, only the users of vi shall be saved when the day of reckoning is edited!

I agree with the suggestion about getting notepad.exe from a friend. If I was on windows, and if I was your friend, I'd send it to you ;)

<edit> GET PICO! MUAHAHA! *dodges bullet from real Linux people*

Actually, vi > *, once you get to know it.

Thanks Storm, but it closed down after a few seconds nonetheless, I guess it's not just a notepad problem.

On another note, after properly removing notepadex (with the uninstall feature that came with it), text files no longer open when I double click them. "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options Control Panel". Should be an easy fix.

I keep forgetting to download SP2, I'll do that tonight and post here if it fixes or not.

Edit: Problem fixed, it opens with notepad now, well it's supposed to. It's still opening in notepadex, which was uninstalled. I'll restart my computer later to see if it's just a temp thing.

Edit2: Notepad(ex) no longer randomly shuts down, that problem is fixed (sort of). It now shuts down when you close the window it was opened from. This is fun.
