Alright, I want to write my own bot in Visual Basic... I am willing to learn Visual Basic or anything else I need to learn, but I need some pointers...

Is the Visual Basic program free? a long time ago, I bought a book on visual basic but I cannot get it to install on my machine (Win XP). So can I get a Visual Basic program all by itself free somewhere? if so where?

Also, where do I start? by that I mean what should I learn first?

Thanks in advance,
jabird

Visual Basics is not free. However, microsoft has release a beta which is like Windows 2003 Evaluation edition. It is for testing only. You need to find someone who has Visual Basic or go out and buy it.

VB costs around $600 :O

You could always... get it for free :-X Just do not try distribute anything in it, or you might get in some trouble. Actually isn't there a student version of vb that is cheaper? Personally I would use vb.net because its oo, and will soon be able to go cross platform... vb6 cannot.

I would recommend getting a book of eBay about Visual Basic, or maybe even a copy of the software (you can be the first non-member here with a legal version (I have a legal version))!

But before you even consider making a bot, learn the language. Bots are a reasonably advanced topic.

Alright guys thanks... Long ago I bought a VB6 book for like $70 and Barnes and Noble... it came with a VB6 cd and all, but the cd wont install on my comp... maybe the cd is screwed up, maybe it just wont work on XP? I also have a book on C++ (I have about 3 on VB6 lol (my uncle was in prison and he took classes on it and gave me the book)).
Is C++ any easier/cheaper?

Thanks,
jabird

(I have searched some warez forums... :( I also dont like torrents :\)
Maybe I will request at the one I am a mod at LOL

I can get you a copy of VS.net (VC++ and VB.net), if you want. Just contact me privately ( <-- ).

But if you're undecided on programming languages, you should look into Java. The compiler and most IDEs are free, including eclipse which is really nice. Also, Sun has lots of really good Beginner Tutorials and an amazingly well detailed API Documentation

It's free, powerful, and easy to learn. All advantages :)

Python is great, I recommend it!

Btw VB is just about easier, I have been learning both and it's kinda simmilar, just get VB on Ares, that's how I got it.
