I was told it was a Syn flood. What's difference between DDoS and Syn flood?

It was a syn flood. To my knowledge, dos is just a term meaning denial of service. in this case, a syn flood would be a type of dos attack.

DDoS is any kind of distributed denial of service attack. The most effective DDoS is a syn flood, because it backs up the tcp message queue really badly without doing much else.

Yes, that's what it is. SYN is a tcp flack, much like ACK, PSH, etc, but because of how SYN works (which I don't pretend to know much about), it causes the connection to get crappy.

I'll make a post on my forum about the origin of my name. I've never even _seen_ aladdin, and didn't take my name from there.

I want to get better with computers, and a botnet and packeting isn't going to help that. I guess it's good I tried it once though, it's always good to have tried everything.
