Ryan | How long do they last now? Seems like I've been banned forever ^_^ | January 5, 2003, 9:00 PM |
Moonshine | Apparently they last forever, but I was IP banned and it only seemed to last about 2 days... (I'm unbanned now?) | January 5, 2003, 9:14 PM |
jnem | Probably for the better. :) | January 5, 2003, 9:14 PM |
RhiNo | I think i was told that it lasts 72 hours even though i was banned 3 times since the new rule but now i know what not to do :-P so i don't do it | January 6, 2003, 4:56 PM |
MesiaH | either IP bans are permanent, and the list gets reset every few days magically, or i was correct in saying they arent permanent. | January 6, 2003, 11:43 PM |
WinSocks | i agree with mesiah, i don't think it's pernament either, casue some ppl who don't realize of what somethings they do is wrong, like loading on a invalid cd-key, which gets u instant ipbanning ;), i get that alot form forgetting to take invalid keys out of my list. I think ipbans only last 3-4days from what i know of. If u game jsut move to a diff server till ur unbanned :) | January 8, 2003, 1:59 AM |
Eternal | I had a 36 hour IP ban for using an invalid key. I managed to do it again with another key, so I'm about to find out if it is consistent. Still, I never wanted to connect to Asia anyway ;D | January 8, 2003, 3:31 AM |
uDead | IP bans can last from <b><A>3 hours to 72</A></b> hours depending on how many people are ipban at the moment. Right now it takes about 72 hours because of all the n00bs that are trying to use the floodbot.<br><br><br> <br><br><br> <center><img src="http://top1oo.hypermart.net/images/udead.bmp"></img></center> | January 9, 2003, 4:23 PM |
Eternal | Seeing as from what I hear IP banning is not consistent, I wonder whether they just re-set the servers every so often...it would explain why some people get different lengths of bans <shrugs> | January 9, 2003, 7:30 PM |
Eternal | OK, I tested this theory.I got myself an IP ban on three Gateways, on 3 different days (two were intentional, one wasn't!) This morning my IP ban was lifted...from all the gateways. So for similar 'offenses' I had IP bans ranging from 24 - 72 hours, but it was lifted at the same time on each Gateway... <shrugs> | January 10, 2003, 3:34 AM |
MiCrOz | I'm not too sure if this is what u ment, but maybe this shows that all IP bans are lifted about every 3 days? This would explain why there is no set limit on how long people are being IP banned for. | January 10, 2003, 10:11 AM |
Eternal | I guess that is what I am saying. Mind you, when the new system recently came in, I did manage to get a ban that lasted about 5 days. Maybe the 'outcry' made them modify things...who know's. Anyone else got any other theories, or are we all just bored of this topic <raises hand> | January 10, 2003, 11:07 AM |
tA-Kane |
Anyone else got any other theories
don't get me started on theories... i'll have you pages of essays on what this new ban method could be :-/ | January 10, 2003, 1:03 PM |
Zakath | I've been banned (and unbanned) from the same gateway three times today alone. Something definitely is screwy here. | January 10, 2003, 2:12 PM |
Arta | The situation as I understand it atm is that you get a certain number of IPBans before it becomes permanent. We don't know how many yet. This, however, could also have been discontinued without us knowing :) | January 10, 2003, 7:37 PM |
Eternal | Yikes :o <begins counting on fingers...> | January 11, 2003, 6:24 AM |
haZe | Mine lasted for about 10 seconds. I tried to join a game that wasnt made and was ipbanned for about 10-20 seconds. BWAHAHA My IP is better than urs BWHAHAHAHAHAH | January 11, 2003, 8:49 AM |
RhiNo | well this morning at 1:30 am i was ip banned and i got out of work at 3:30 and got on bnet and was not ip banned anymore so that means ip bans = shit again | January 11, 2003, 5:43 PM |
Atom | Well i know i was ipbanned and on a proxy untill the useast server crashed for like 30 seconds. That was after being banned about a week and a half. So obviously when a server crashes memory is reset and the ip's arent logged to a file. Is it possible that when you guys are getting unbanned its because one of the 12 servers has crashed? Maybe, just another theory. But its definite not all the bans are permanent, but id say somethings you do may get you banned perm... untill a server crash that is. | January 16, 2003, 10:46 PM |
UserLoser | I thought there was 13 east servers ??? use-bna-chatxx.battle.net useast.battle.net exodus.battle.net xx = 01 - 11 Or maybe just one of those IP's are the same. I never set the server to the actual IP, so i'm not to sure. | January 17, 2003, 1:45 PM |

tA-Kane | do the realm servers have the same names as the chat servers (eg, [gateway]-BNA-chat*)? | January 18, 2003, 4:21 PM |
Yoni | Well, realm servers will not have the word "chat" in the hostname? | January 18, 2003, 4:22 PM |
Naem | I do not believe "permanent" IPbans will survive a server restart. Could be wrong though. | January 19, 2003, 1:25 PM |
C.o.D-pissant | well they dont last forever even if u have cable if u have a dial-up dl net0 connect w/ that disconnect then connect w/ ur real service. w/ cable it is trickyer i have done it many times connect w/ net0 but first disable the little thingy in the network connections while connected to net0 enable the thing in network connections (w/e isp it is) if u have a chewbacca going it will stay on for a second then disconnect then when ur cable modem resyncs or w/e term then it should say "a network cable is unplugged" and it will assign u a new ip address... it worked for me ;D | January 20, 2003, 12:27 AM |
RhiNo |
well they dont last forever even if u have cable if u have a dial-up dl net0 connect w/ that disconnect then connect w/ ur real service. w/ cable it is trickyer i have done it many times connect w/ net0 but first disable the little thingy in the network connections while connected to net0 enable the thing in network connections (w/e isp it is) if u have a chewbacca going it will stay on for a second then disconnect then when ur cable modem resyncs or w/e term then it should say "a network cable is unplugged" and it will assign u a new ip address... it worked for me
All that is pointless you get "un ipbanned" after a few hours just have to wait untill they reset the ladder then you are generally unbanned now if it even lasts that long | January 20, 2003, 10:57 AM |
Bradlee | Ip bans are 20 Minutes. Useing a spoof in a game (Colour) will get you ip banned for 5 Minutes. | January 21, 2003, 1:18 AM |
