What in the hell? It's twice that price at a store near my house...
The 9800 is just faster than the 9700, 9600 and 9500. If you know how to overclock I'd recommend going with the 9600 or if you know how to overclock without lighting anything on fire, go with the 9500.
Other than that, go for it that's a great price.

If that was the price for a Radeon 9800 Pro here, I'd go for it without hesitation. Unfortunately, that's approximately the price of a Radeon 9600 Pro here.

It wont be exactly "double". If its 280 AM it might be 420 or something I dunno.

Radeon 9800 XT 256MB $ 455
Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB $ 280
Radeon 9600 XT 128MB $ 179
Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB $ 143
[/code]

Bah, the $280 is a 'used - very good' price. The best new and retail (non OEM) price appears to be about $329.

You have a BestBuy at your house?

Best Buy is not a place to buy computer hardware, unless it's got great rebates on it.

No, NewEgg is probably the best place to get hardware. My entire computer is built from parts from that store, they ship promptly and at low cost (often free) and I've never had a problem with anything they've sent me except a crappy $40 ChainTech motherboard that failed 6 months after installation. That's what I get for buying $40 motherboards, I suppose.

NewEgg actually has a 9800SE (I'm not sure as to the difference between SE, Pro and nothing), OEM, listed at $145 -- 128MB, TV out, 2x CRT connectors. $179 will get you a retail-boxed 9800SE and $310 will get you a retail Radeon 9800 PRO with all the goodies. Try 'em out, all the ones I mentioned have free shipping on 'em as well.

I have to travel 30-60 mins to get to a mall or a place to buy stuff. The only thing thats decent in my town is a Wal-Mart, and thats sad.

It's too bad you're Canadian -- NewEgg isn't an option for you. They deliver nearly anywhere through FedEx. ;)
