I was working for a company that builds steel walkway covers and such. I guess it was about a year or so ago I was building a cover at this local police academy. They told me to cut any of the cables that were in my way. So, I'm cutting and cutting. About ten minutes later about six people come around the corner following the cables and they get to where I'm working. They look at me all weird and say, did you cut that cable right there?
Turns out it was fiber optic:)

I spend over four hours a day at work going between this, my clan forum, and the gotdotnet.com forums. =) and I work six hours a day! $10 an hour to boot!

I was at a party last Friday and a guy broke a beer bottle over my head. I now have one hell of a gash in my cheek, and many smaller ones on my forehead. The only positive thing that came from that was my natural reaction was to hit him over the head with my bottle and he has 10 stiches and I have none. Luckily I was drunk enough I didn't feel it. ;D

Why?

I was suspended in 7th grade for the last 2 days of school, its all thanks to them forcing you to take some sort of music class up until 7th grade. Since I was never into band I had no choice but to join choir and seeing how at the time I disliked it and the teacher was terrible, at the final choir concert I lit a lighter and waved it back and forth during one of those precious solo songs hehe. Im not sure if it was worth it at the time but it is still one of those funny/stupid things you do when you're younger and still provides a good laugh from time to time. I don't recommend this for people because I mainly got out of it with no major trouble besides suspension thanks to the choir teacher saying inappropriate things about me the next day + it was the end of the school year I think they just didn't want to bother. ;)

I was skipping class the Thursday before Thanksgiving and was sitting in the lunchroom talking to this girl I know. Theres these 9th grade rednecks throwing food at people and they started to throw food at people at the table I was sitting at. I have a bad temper so I started yelling at them and asked them if they had a problem. No one responded so I asked a couple people who was throwing the food and found out. It was this small 9th grader, so I went up to him at his locker after lunch and more or less threatened him and threw him into his locker. He was like 'whatever', so I left and walked down the hall. As I was walking in the bathroom he gave me the middle finger and said something to me, so I went out in the hall and got up in his face. His friends were telling him to hit me. I told him to as well. So he started swinging at me. He missed three times and jumped on me. I threw him down on the ground and a teacher grabbed me. The principal gave me five days for fighting even though I never hit the kid.

I kinda got screwed but oh well. At least I got almost two weeks off from school because of Thanksgiving break.

Worth it.

First day of school, I hax0r my way into cmd.exe and NetBIOS message the whole school. They got mad but didn't do anything. Then someone blamed me for emailing pr0n to the entire grade, but then they realized that the account name didn't match my name.

Well there are these magic registry entries that remove the ability to right-click on your desktop, remove the internet options from internet explorer, get rid of control panel/run/etc, and get rid of stuff on the start menu.

Of course, if I needed to access some restricted program, I can go into VB and Shell my way to it. Anyway, I had this bright yellow disk with my crafted .reg's. I put it in, install them, take it out. Teacher sees me take it out and is like "wtf is that." Stupidly I didn't destroy the disk...

Anyway, the sysadmin comes down and takes a look at it (I dunno if he would've know what it was unless i hadn't included a readme for my friend), and takes me to asst. principal. Sysadmin says some shit like I was trying to change my grades/bypass security/look at porn/"what else is he capable of with this disk..." etc and I was like, "no way I just didn't like my desktop color." The other tech dudes look at it and realize it's nothing special so they just suspend me for 2 days and don't even put it on my record. Suspended from computers for a month...big deal. Still got an A in compsci honors ;)

Few days later, I hear that the sysadmin is a witness for my dad's next case. Hurray.

Anyway, a few days till the end of school, a lot of fun stuff happened. They randomly deleted PuTTY from my account along with my ROMs/games but didn't say anything. Then there is this thing called TalkIT which is a tts program for kids, which I downloaded and sent to a bunch of friends. As we hurled politically-incorrect insults across the room, someone gets caught and goes up and promptly rats me out. Lunch duty.

They got mad because I disabled the desktop spying thing too.

Then, the last day of school, the same kid gets caught with a little windows explorer I made in VB (which has no restrictions). Apparently the sysadmin was scared shitless (why?) from what I heard when he saw it. Anyway, I guess he forgot about that for the summer.

They also found out about my websense killer (http://ns1.vpnsys.org/~pete/freebrowse.php?url=http://www.yahoo.com). Slow, but works.

This year I telnetted to the SMTP server and sent an email from George W Bush to a friend. Good thing I didn't tell him it was me; when he laughed and showed the teacher he got all pissed and called the network people. They never found out who it was (thanks, SSH!)

So yeah...I have a reputation now...but I'm eclipsed by a junior who installed keyloggers on all the teachers' computers and really did change his grades :)

They should at least secure command-line utilities which students have no business running, as well as other ways to execute commands.

Give the network admins a clinic in return for immunity. Sounds like they'd appreciate learning from you and would be willing to ignore much of what you do to the systems (so long as you keep them informed). Or, maybe they're too proud and stupid.

That sounds just like the same situation our school has just put themselfs in.. They just updated the network along with the servers, and I guess they forgot to back the student documents up.. So now everyone in all 5 classes has to redo all the work the admin's lost. It's so retarded, and then they tried to blame the students for saving it in the wrong place, it's seriously sad.

If there's one thing I've learned in school, it's:

DON'T BE DIFFERENT.

Teachers don't really want your opinions (everytime I said something positive about George W in debates my teacher would tell me to shut up, and whenever I did something outside the requirements in compsci it prompted a full-scale investigation).

Great episode.

Guess what I did today, it was quite fun..really. The result isn't pretty however, I am now labeled a 'hacker' by: at least 30 of my classmates (not sure if this has spread), my schools sysadmin, my science teacher, the city wide school admin, the downtown school headquarters, and all of the schools in my area. For what? For "hacking" into "Norfolk Public Schools Network System." Sure, my teacher did get a phone call from downtown, sure my sysadmin had to sure all the computers in the room
until he found a matching serial. Yet, I hadn't had any administration contact past the sysadmin and my science teacher. Which I guess is good since my mom is (and has been for a while) a personal friend of the principal. Anyway, here I am sitting in class doing research on Hemophilia, Godfather Pictures, and Julius Caesar quotes. I figure it'd be good fun to send a harmless message to (what I thought) the kids in my classroom. Had I been thinking I would have realized that the mobile lab is only part of the network running the entire school. But was I thinking? Of course not! Anyway so I send my test 'hi' message and see it start popping up around the classroom and certain students shouting 'hi' and then closing it and continuing with their work. I figured it was dumb and could only be fun to startle my unsuspecting peers in the barrier of my
classroom. So, I debate on whether or not to send another message, throwing crafty ideas to and fro in my head (I am extremely happy I didn't send another message, especially one saying "the network is shutting down", "I am God, fear me", or anything of the like) including one I almost sent which was a famous Caesar quote. Anyway, before I had a chance (this is about 30 minutes after the initial 'hi') the syadmin Mr. Gephardt comes walking in my classroom. He, after announcing what
had happened (a network message being sent *rolls eyes*) and saying he tracecd it to that classroom and whoever did it should come up, started to search the computer serial numbers. At the time I was debating on if I should or shouldn't admit to it...I wish I had but whatever. Anyway after his announcement, which made me feel like some detectives prize, "I've got him.", my heart began to beat rapidly. Mostly from nervousness. I walked out of the classroom with him and my science
teacher, what he said is sketchy but I remember my teacher saying she was dissapointed that I didn't confess and she asked the sysadmin if she should write me a referral. He, and I do thank him for this (well I would thank him but I don't think I should have contact with him), said that he doesn't think I need one this time. Anyway, my biology teacher sent me back in and I calmly said "My apologies." and sat down. However, the class wasn't calm. I, sadly, got a ton of "publicity" from the people within the class room including statements such as "You are God.", "Are you a hacker? I wish I was a hacker so I could hack into peoples emails and read their mail." (I calmly, and truthfully, replied no to this question) and a plethora of "How did you do it"'s. In fact, I received those throughout the day. People were all concerned about what the people said and if
I'm being suspended and stuff. Anyway, when my teacher walks in the class goes quiet and she comes to me and says that if I do anything like this again, or tell people how to do it I get an instant five day suspension. I, stupidly, told her "It's his fault, if he had done his job properly then it wouldn't have happened." This, I think, made her mad and she said that
maybe she should still give me a referral and that she is now going to call my mom because "Mr. Gephardt wouldn't be very happy if you told him he didn't do his job right." She ended up not giving me a referral, but according to my mom I'm getting a "condut notice" which is a notice to my parents that goes on my permanent record. The whole "hack" (as they called it) was rather simple/stupid/easily prevented. My gripe is that "Command Prompt" should NOT be on the start menu, and I've been
thinking this for a while. I'm now debating on if I should go tell the sysadmin this, since if it happens again I'm basically gonna be blamed for either doing it or telling somebody to. I was also told that now I'm gonna be monitored because, as my teacher put it, "He knows you're smart." Anyway, I was more nervous than anything until I got home where I couldn't stop laughing as my mom told me what happened when the teacher called. Me thinking it hadn't exceeded the schools walls quickly
found out that it did go over the entire school system which was funny to me since I didn't think that had actually happened. Also I found it funny that "my teachers voice was shaking", anyway I'm lucky I got off with a warning but the whole in my record thing isn't good. It's ashame that I'm now labeled as a "hacker" over a simple command prompt command (net send * hi). I'm curious to see if the command prompt is still on the start menu when I return on Monday. I'm concerned about talking to him though as he may get mad at me or something for trying to help him. Bleh, people without understanding of computers really annoy me as something so stupid simple becomes a big deal and everyone begins to freak out.

Sadly it seems that every school in my city, as well as administration downtown (superintendant and stuff) that got it agree. I suppose us h4x0rs are teh true l33t ones bcUz w3 use teh l33t NET SEND. :P

Thats exactly what I use, it is blue for like 1 week, black for like 3 and then fades out slowly after that depending on how much you wash it.

When I told her I was trying to get electrocuted, she said good luck and closed the door. About 10 minutes later she got pissed off and made me come inside. Damn! Women have no sense of adventure. I went to ozzfest yesterday, and I can still barely walk. I got the shit beaten out of me, I smell like sweat, beer and weed (neither of the latter came from me), I'm cut, bruised and sunburned to hell, and I don't care because it was a fucking great time.

Edit: I'm bored, so I'm going to write about what actually happened at the show.

When I got there, the second stage had about 500 people in front of it. Some crappy band that won a local radio station's contest was playing, and then Atreyu was supposed to play. They suck, so I was going to go walk around for a while, but then I saw them put up the Darkest Hour banner, and it turns out Atreyu got stuck in canada, so that kicked ass. Darkest Hour was pretty good. I didn't like the stuff I had heard before the show, but live they did a good job. The singer specifically said somthing about their new CD, and if you don't want to buy it, download it "Because we belive in free transfer of information and filesharing and shit".

Next, Throwdown played, who I like, and thats pretty much when the show really started going. By now there were probably about ten thousand people around us, and we had managed to work our way up to about three feet from the barriers before the stage. People started moshing, and the crowd surfers started popping up. Next came twenty minutes of boredom with magna-fi playing, who suck almost as much as Atreyu.

After that was great though, Devildriver, God Forbid and Unearth all totally rocked, and by Unearth some of my other friends had worked their way up to where we were. The next hour and a half or so was ok, Every Time I Die kindof sucked, Otep was pretty good, and I didn't really like Lacuna Coil or Bleeding Through.

Next up, Lamb of God kicked ass, and this is where some good ol' violent fun really started to take off. Moshing was happening everywhere, and they did the thing where they spilt the crowd in half and have you charge at each other which was awsome. Up next, Hatebreed really got everyone to kill each other. The singer got people to form a pit that was probably forty feet wide. Every once in a while he'd tell everyone to start jumping and say "Remember, if you don't feel like jumping, just start tearing up the people next to you".

To finish off the second stage, Slipknot played. They were fucking awsome. They took a good twenty minutes to set up, and people were getting pissed off by the time they finally came out. This is where I got totally wrecked. By now, I was drenched in sweat, and barely able to stand, but everyone was shoving everyone else, and it was awsome. At one point I got thrown over the barrier, and shredded my knee pretty badly, but I didn't even notice until later on. But through the majority of the set I was just struggling to stay on my feet.

At the end of Slipknot's set, it was 4:45PM, and I had been standing up since 9:00AM, so I had to pretty much drag myself over the main stage. I decided to skip Black Label Society and Superjoint Ritual since I don't particularly like either, and I got something to drink for the first time that day (3.50 for a bottle of water, yeah!). Well, the main stage was, to put it bluntly, boring. Though most of the second stage I was ten feet from the stage, for this I was about five hundred feet away. The bands were better, but it was no fun.

We came in right as Dimmu Borgir was setting up, and they played for about a half hour, and I was pissed that I could barely see them (I had pretty decent seats too!) because they're freaks and I like watching freaks. But they're music kicked ass, so all was well. Slayer rocked the stage next, followed by Judas Priest back with Halford, who were fucking amazing to say the least. Finally, Black Sabbath played, and were better than I could have imagined. Ozzy was in awsome shape, he was jumping around, headbanging and running back and forth across the stage. They played "War Pigs" first, and on their big screen thingy showed lots of anti-bush propaganda which I thought was funny (Pictures of bush and hitler side by side, "Same shit, different asshole").

Well that about wraps it up, it was awsome, and definately worth the $90 for the ticket.

I went to work today. I smell like I smelled before I left for work. My skin tone status is the same, and I'm hungry.

We have Pre-IB and IB. Pre-IB is 9th/10th grade and IB is 11th/12th. What did you get a 6 on? AP tests only go from 1-5 and that's the only thing I can think would be graded like that.

Eli: Ew. You only need like 200 hours. That's not much in exchange for what you get from the program. I totally bombed last year, and the only reason I'm still allowed to be IB is because I was ahead a year or more in all of my classes. I'm going to have to work my butt off all year to stay in the program.

They're graded just like regular classes here (A, B, C, D, E (F)) as far as I know..

The extended essay and TOK essay, afaik, were/are graded on an A-F scale.
IE: If you got A+ in both, you got +3 points on your total.

My high school also had pre-ap courses. We did not get college hours, or credit of any kind. It was a introductory class to higher level thinking geared towards that subject. I'd be willing to say your school doesn't give credit for pre-ap either, as we had regular AP classes for sophomores through seniors. pre-ap classes were pretty much freshman class. :-p

I think our PreAP and AP classes are the same cause school started today and we had PreAP and AP people all mixed up in the same classes.

I mean seriously...who doesn't know how to extract a file?

This problem stems from the commercialization of Computer Science. You have too many idiots who want to be programmers because they hear there is a lot of money involved, but who don't spend 90% of their free time on computers like all good geeks should.

We almost came back and tied that game in the last 5 minutes, we scored a touchdown and our defense came together and intercepted a pass. 1:14 on the clock, we score another touchdown. But from there they just ran the clock down. The crowd was crazy though.

Mac is great.  Windows has been copying Mac for like 18 years, but they're always a step behind.

The difference is that Microsoft is extremely good at marketing.  And as long as the major software companies keep making software for Windows, and the hardware companies keep making drivers for Windows, people are going to keep using Microsoft products.

Incidentally, I am extremely happy that Doom 3 was released for Linux.  Not that I like Doom 3, but now two of the major games (Quake 2 [I think] and Doom 3) have Linux ports.  This means that companies are finally realizing that there IS a market on Linux.

My OS choice has nothing to do with appearance, it's about speed and functionality.  I love racing my Windows computer (2.8ghz) and Linux computer (800mhz) on simple tasks and seeing Linux consistantly win :-)

I got first place in speaker (presentation/articulation) points and my partner and I got first place in team points at the debate tournament today. gg - not too shabby for this to be my first debate ever. :D

We beat Strake Jesuit 6-3. The most boring game ever, nobody scored till the last quarter, and then it was only field goals.

Eww, I hated those.  Such a waste of half the morning, and they make us go.  Most people at my school, unfortunately, don't care about pep.

After one week of practice, I played safety at our game yesterday, we won 21-10. I made 2 negative yardage tackles :D

(Between Titus Town and Huntersville, which are two low life areas of town) Apparently they searched students and found knives, mace, brass knuckles. Last year there was a huge riot and the security maced the kids, I heard from multiple sources that a gun was there too.

My school is the safest in my city too, our worst incident was someone getting "jumped" last week, which happens like once a year. This year, they had baseball bats, the guy who got beat up had a couple flesh wounds but nothing broken and he was able to walk and talk fine right afterwards, some of the guys involved got arrested.

They brought in a counsellor for people that saw the fight happen so that they don't become traumatized. The next day we had an hour lecture in class on how this kind of thing can affect you mentally and how it's good to talk about it...

My school is the safest in town! But then again it's also the only highschool in town, so eh? I don't think there's been a single fight all year, though, which is surprising when you cram a few thousand people in a building.

We have fights often, but I reckon we have less than those schools in worse sections of town. We have a city police officer and four security guards during the day, and about 2235 students. Other schools in our city have less students and the same amount of security guards (or maybe more.)

We've had a few fights this year. The freshmen are generally who messes up, for instance they got caught having sex in the bathroom a few times within the past two weeks, smoking on the stairs, etc. Morons.

Wow, I've never seen police at our school for any reason, no fights, nobody smokes in the stairs (even though we have an entire abandoned/empty section of the school), and I've never heard of sex in the bathroom (!!).  Guess it's hard to appreciate what we have :)

It's raining like hell today, and my joyous house has plumbing issues.  The cess pool backs up during rain and thus floods the basement as well as plugging up the main sewer line which leaves whatever I befouled my stomach with floating.  If I attempt to flush, it will eventually end up in the pipes in the basement, which very well could result in ending up on the basement floor.  I should've resolved this problem a fortnight ago, as winter seems to be approaching here and it is looking like rain all night, and rain tomorrow as well.  Hopefully this makes all you with public sewer feel better!  On a more pleasant note, Halloween out in the sticks resulted in me having no trick or treaters, which leaves me with the undefiled bag of candy.  It will be holy no more!

I have lunch seventh period actually, and study hall 8th.  Since i'm an 'upper classmen' (juniors and seniors), I can have the option of not going to lunch/study hall since they're my last two classes of the day.  Why?  You can eat at home, you can study at home

We won our game today 14-3, we didn't make it to the playoffs :(. We're 4-3 this season.

I despise Exchange Server 2003.  I despise even more the fact that I accepted a new client that runs it and I have to support it.  I do find it rather humorous that he still hired me after I told him that I have never in my life touched an Exchange Server.

Important safety tip #1.
Never, never, never orphan an OST file from Exchange 2003.  You will either need to pay $600.00 for the software to convert it to PST or pay a service to do it for you.  I paid $60.00 for a service to convert a 1.5 GB file.

The Exchange server we used at work during my summer internship died and it took like 48 hours of work to get it running again.

My dad runs Exchange off of his server. I think it's horrible. He likes it though. Weirdo.

We had no power at work for an hour on thursday.  They told us 4 hours, so we were packing to go to the bar, and then it came back on.  We were upset.

It turns out, a small animal chewed through a wire and blacked out most of downtown Winnipeg.  They don't know *what* chewed through it, though, because it got fried too bad to tell.

This time, we lost 0 servers! Last timem we went down hard, two of our Dells fried their Raid Controllers.

Speaking of last time, it was a planned outage.  We had everything off because they were doing maintenance for 12 hours.  Then the power goes up, and they get the green light to turn them back on.  So *power up start to restore* and boom, power goes down again.  They madly try to shut them down while the UPS's drain, but they don't make it.  2 never come back.  It was sad :(

Megadeth and Exodus were awesome last night.  The problem is, and this normally happens to me, I liked the opening band (Exodus) more than the headliners (Megadeth).

That also happened when I went to Ozzy Osbourne.  The bands were:

My most to least favourite:

I'm 15. When I was 14 I was in highschool though. I'm totally mad too, I got 4th place for speaker (how well I speak) and my partner and I only got 3rd place in the entire thing. In the last tournament I got 1st place for speaker and we got 1st place for the entire thing. I expected no less, since we did well. What totally screwed me over was one judge gave everybody low speaker points. My debate coach said college students usually do that, and this guy was one. It totally pissed me off because I ranked #1 in all four of the debates today, the lowest score I've ever had was 26/30 for speaking. This guy gave me 19/30 - though still the highest in that debate it was about 10 points off of what I should have gotten. Had he scored me like a normal judge, with what I deserved, I'd have gotten first easily. We were beat out for second by two speaker points. It's definately not a normal thing for a person to go 4-0 in speaking and not get a high ranking trophy.

Yesterday was lunch with Dad where I found out I'm (probably) going to Florida with him in February.

Friday is our "Christmas Luncheon" for the department i work for, MICT (Manitoba Information and Communications Technology).  Which is going to be the whole afternoon.

And tomorrow, one of the new students who'll be doing the Winter Workterm is coming for a tour, which should be fun.  Overall, this is a hell of a week! :-D

Tomorrow and Friday are both half days for me, so thats nice.

Yay snow day! We only got a lite dusting but the roads are very icey and the temperature is 3 degrees (with windchill) so they closed em'. ;D

I work up to and including the 24th, and I get 25, 26, 27, 28 off, and I work 29, 30, 31st.  Then I have the weekend off, and start school on Jan. 5.  Fun!

Our first official day of break is Thursday. Last year we had this whole week off too, but they made us go for three extra days in fear of another large hurricane like Isabel which kept us out of school for about a week. Florida got all the hurricanes and we get stuck with less of a break.

We get 2 weeks break.

I think the phrase "you'll get over it" is becoming dull, because sometimes people don't get over it at all and become insane pyschos, if alls you have to say in reply to somthing is "you'll get over it" then you're not really helping someone get over it, are you?

We were supposed to have thursday as our last day before break. But uh, I may have gotten suspended for the rest of the week. Any my parents don't care. So.... WOOHOO EARLY VACATION!

Well, I actually agree, I had decided against it. I wanted one, but I didn't want 6 colors or want to spend $30. However, I figured if I can resell them on eBay (they were going $10/each when I last checked) I'd make the money back on colors I don't want (pink/purple).

The current temperature here is -17F, which feels warm compared to the -30F yesterday morning.  If you want to count the wind, the current temperature is -32F, and yesterday morning was -45F. 

It gets cold at nights, and when you sleep in a tent, you have to wear warm clothes. I slept in my coat this week. It was ok, but I woke up feeling very cold for some reason.

One time I went camping in the rain in a tent that, as it turns out, isn't waterproof.  My blanket and pillow and clothes and everything were soaked.  And it was ~5 - 10 degrees celcius (which is like 40 - 50F), so that was a coooooold night.

Haha.  Being from California and going to college in New Hampshire was a major weather change.  But as I got used to the weather, I noticed myself thinking it's warm out when it's 10F.

Posters from McAfee came today. They shipped them 2 day international on the 23rd. I found that humerous since 2 days wouldn't really do anything useful, since 23+2=25=Christmas=Weekend. Anyway, shipped all the way from Canada, was able to get them through my uber connections with  the Manitoba government. ;) I am still deciding whether or not to keep poster 2 and 3 up, I probably wont'.

I'm either returning or exchanging EVERYTHING I got for christmas. On boxing day my dad and I went out and got a wireless router and card for my computer. I left for vacation 5 days ago, it snowed about 2 feet and none has melted. I also went snowboarding for the first time this year yesterday.

Tomorrow is a holiday, The 13th Day!

I started university yesterday.  First half of fourth year.  My classes own.

1) Philosophy of Language -- 11 people, awesome prof, 3 short assignments worth 33% each.
2) Stats 1 -- 170 people, I got to stand because the room's too small, it's hot and smelly and is full of first year children.  I'll have to get there early from now on, and not wander into the wrong room.
3) Machine Learning -- The prof is amazing, although he can't work the projection thing.  Small class, and there's only one person in it who I wouldn't consider a friend (simply because I don't know him)
4) Computer Security -- I'll get back to you on that, it's this morning :)

ew@1:170 student teacher ratio. That's one thing I'm not looking forward to about college.

Same, but didn't bother going to classes.  Damn jet lag.  Alas, I only have 2 classes.

1) COSC 68 - Principles Programming of Languages (M W F 12:30-1:35)

In the crappy departments / first year courses, it's like that.  But in real departments and later years, it's not.

The problem is that Stats is a requirement for just about every degree, so almost everybody has to go through it.

My other classes are about 11, 15, and 40.  Pretty small, considering.

There's nothing wrong with 1:170 for lectures. Better to have the one best teacher instruct everyone than to have him teach others who will then try to forward the information to the students!

Righto.  In any big (or even medium/small) lecture class I've had, we've also had a smaller recitation section which is taught by a TA.  The recitation allows people to get clarification on topics and have more in-depth discussions which would be impossible in a large lecture setting.

They also have videos on the material we learn, and there's TA's around in the "Stats lab" during most school hours.

Another thing Iforgot to mention, I'm also marking this term for 74.216 - Programming Practices.  For most students, it's their first course in "C" after being trained on "Java", so it's an interesting course to mark

My school raised over 1,000 dollars to go to the Red Cross Tsunami fund. The fundraiser ended today, we didn't sell stuff or anything just kids donated money during lunch and stuff. Sophmores donated the most (go us!) followed by seniors, juniors, and then freshmen.

When I was donating today, one of the freshmen collectors offered to give me a hug in exchange for me supporting the freshmen class. Since sophmores won by a landslide (over $100) and we don't really get anything for winning, I kinda wish I had donated to the freshmen. :P

Why don't americans call grades what they actually are (9, 10, 11, 12, or S1, S2, S3, S4) like in Canada? The whole having 4 different unrelated names is confusing :(

I don't even hear that used on college/university here.  I hear "Freshmen", but only as a derogatory term.  Here I call it "first year", "second year", etc.  Right now, for instance, I'm in "The first half of fourth year".

Same, except we go by our graduating year.  So I would be an 07 and someone graduating this year would be an 05.  Of course, this gets icky when people take longer to graduate than expected.  There are a few 04s still here :P

What about people who don't graduate at the normal time?  I'm supposed to graduate in December of 05, whereas a lot of people I started school with graduate in June of 05.  That's why I specifiy I'm in the first half of fourth year, because I still have another academic term left.

I'm doing in internship program, which means two things:
1) I don't get a summer break
2) I get 12 months of work experience during class

Well, most people here graduate on time.  Dartmouth has a neat thing called the D-Plan which effectively allows you to take off several terms for things like internships or going abroad for study.  It's very convenient, albeit a short 10-weeks, but you can stack them next to each other.

My school called down 200 students to the cafe yesterday to tell them they would recieve a month suspension (right before exams) if they weren't vaccinated by the Jan. 17th.

I think its a law of physics.  When I renewed my license, I was like "great, I can get a good picture this time!" 

Too bad I broke out with poison ivy all over my face the day before I went to get it renewed.  The picture doesn't show it much, but it definently proves the rule.

Because they want a month long suspension.

Because they weren't aware they needed it, never got around to it, didn't find it important.

It was manditory at my school.  They would take us class by class and give it to us, so unless you were away that day you got it.

You can't go to school here unless you have them. That starts when you're young too.

Senior Skip day and I'm at school.

Woo, got a letter in the mail today from Who's Who Among American High School Students. Apparently, I've been nominated for this thing (not exactly sure what to say it is.) So, I have to send in this thing with what clubs I'm in and stuff, where I want to go to college, and what I want to be when I'm an adult. To quote the thing

This is cool, I'm not sure if they need to review my 'biographical information' before I'm fully accepted or if I'm already fully accepted. I wonder who nominated me, I'd like to thank them. I think the max amount of money I can get through this is like $6,000 but that's still enough to almost pay for room and board to where I want to go (Columbia University.)

I'm only in like 3 clubs though, and that's basically all the 'biographical information' part is. And, although it says acceptance isn't based on the number and is only used for when your picture/name/etc. is published, I'd still like to join a few more. :o
