iago |
WOO HOO .. got mine today ... however, I got everything EXCEPT the Volume 1. Received: Processor Optimization Reference Manual Volume 2: Instruction Set Manual Volume 3: System Programming Guide
Is that first one Xeon processor manual? That's what I got, and no Volume 1. I assume the demand was too high, so it's probably on backorder somewhere. We should bitch that we want our moneys back :D | February 20, 2003, 5:44 PM |
Grok | FYI -- I got this email from someone at Intel: "To order publications or texts in hardcopy form, or to check the status of an order you have already placed, you can contact the Technical Documentation Center at 1-800-548-4725" | February 20, 2003, 7:17 PM |
Eibro | Jerks! Now I know why mine never came; I only ordered volume 1... | February 20, 2003, 11:31 PM |
iago | Well, there's your problem! I would suggest ordering volume 2, at least, it's the only one I'll ever use most likely. | February 21, 2003, 3:25 AM |
Etheran | iago's boguarding all the books!! get him!!!!! | February 21, 2003, 3:49 AM |
Grok |
Well, there's your problem! I would suggest ordering volume 2, at least, it's the only one I'll ever use most likely.
The 'optimizing' book appears quite useful. It describes different situations, which code to use, and even explains why to use them. For example, it talks about the use of INC and DEC, and says you should generally look to replace them with ADD and SUB instead. The reason? INC and DEC do not affect all flags, while ADD and SUB do. This could lead to subtle programming errors from the former's usage if you are expecting all flags to change. It even has examples on optimizing C code for the Intel compilers. | February 21, 2003, 8:59 AM |
dRAgoN | 5days ^^ i just got my FedEx box also only got book 2 & 3. along with the backorder slip. | February 24, 2003, 5:59 PM |
MrRaza | =[ I havent gotten shit! | February 24, 2003, 6:23 PM |

Eibro |
Woooo!! finally got all my intel books except for Vol1. I guess the reason why it took so long is because it had to go through border checks....
Mine also had to go across the border, so that can't be why. I doubt they ship each order as it comes in... i'd bet it's one or two days a week when all orders get shipped. | February 28, 2003, 11:17 PM |
