Etheran | 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 24 31 40 51 X<--- what is the next number in the pattern( X ) this one stumped me :( ..but I know it now ;) | October 23, 2003, 1:28 AM |
Hitmen | 64 I belive. 19 -> 24 = 5 24 -> 31 = 7 31 -> 40 = 9 40 -> 51 = 11 51 -> 64 = 13 | October 23, 2003, 1:42 AM |
Etheran | wrong | October 23, 2003, 1:53 AM |
Hitmen | Pfft. It almost works :( | October 23, 2003, 1:55 AM |
Etheran | almost ain't cuttin' it, chum | October 23, 2003, 1:56 AM |
iago | I'd say 42.. I mean, it IS the ultimate answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything. | October 23, 2003, 5:24 AM |
Etheran | come on people, this one has a great deal to do with computer science! I'll give you a hint, it has to do with number bases.. changing number bases | October 23, 2003, 10:39 PM |
UserLoser | 126 | October 24, 2003, 12:57 AM |
Etheran | wrong. 16 is a key number. | October 24, 2003, 1:20 AM |
DarkVirus | 66 | October 24, 2003, 1:39 AM |
Etheran | in yo' dreams buddy! :p | October 24, 2003, 2:20 AM |
DarkVirus | Then enlighten us as to what the next number in the series is please before the thread simply becomes vacant 8) | October 24, 2003, 2:50 AM |
______ | I dont see a pattern. I think its a trick question :-\ | October 24, 2003, 2:52 AM |
Grok | It's obviously ____ but I don't want to ruin everyone's fun. | October 24, 2003, 3:27 AM |
CrAz3D | It's got to be 64. 16 doesn't work with that, except for 16*4 Hitmen's post makes sense. | October 24, 2003, 3:31 AM |
Yoni | *solved* It's 64, but CrAz3D's explanation is wrong. I think. | October 24, 2003, 5:26 AM |
Etheran | it's not 64. | October 24, 2003, 8:42 AM |
Etheran | 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 24 31 40 51 the number bases are changing so that xbx = 16b10 take the first number in the series for example 11 in base 15 is equal to 16 in base 10 what base does 12 equal 16 in base 10? base 14 what base does 13 equal 16 in base 10? 13 what base does 14 equal 16 in base 10? 12 ... what base does 51 equal 16 in base 10? base 3 what's the next base then? the pattern is the last base - 1 so it's base 2. I'll leave it up to you guys to solve this because it should be pretty obvious by now. | October 24, 2003, 8:54 AM |

Your series should be: 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 20 22 24 31 100 121 | October 24, 2003, 10:14 AM |

[/quote] No it doesn't Hitman's post doesn't explain the 11...19 entries as part of the pattern. The domain of the question requires a fitting pattern. You can't just look at the last 5 entries and say you've figured it out. | October 24, 2003, 3:39 PM |
