That depends. As a reference, they're nice, but as a guide, they can be rather annoying.

Really? What should I have searched for on google to get started writing a driver for my PVR-350? (actually searched and didn't find any really good link)

I like books. I can't stand reading anything really lengthly on the computer. Plus, I don't have to sit here and read, I can go outside or take it in the car/plane/train somewhere.

What I meant was that Google helps one figgure out what to look up on MSDN.

Get on kazaa and search for the book your looking for, someone has likely zipped it or something and put it up.

Ah. I still don't know what to search for to find the guide I'd need to be able to write a driver for a PCI tuner/capture card.
