FrOzeN | Samsung 204B 20" (Black - not silver as showed in link) -or- ViewSonic VX2235wm 22" Widescreen I haven't looked into the second one much, but would it be good for gaming? Mainly games such as: CSS, Half Life 2, FEAR, etc.. Thoughts? | October 24, 2006, 6:49 PM |
Topaz | They both look ugly | October 24, 2006, 8:25 PM |

KoRRuPT | For starters, Dell makes terrible monitors, I advise against getting anything Dell. Myself and friends have had really bad experiences with Dell products (mainly monitors) and their terrible customer service department. In my opinion and from past experience, ViewSonic produce really high quality, if not the best monitors on the market. | October 25, 2006, 2:57 AM |

[/quote] Dell's monitors are usually rebranded, with product testing (thats what you're paying for, really), and they've been great from everyone I've been told that use them. For one, I know several members on this board use them regularly. Now, if you're going to bash Dell desktops, thats ok, but Dell monitors are one of their offerings that are high quality. The tech support is iffy, but it's offshore - nothing you can do about that. | October 25, 2006, 3:15 AM |
KoRRuPT | I was just explaining from my experience, the customer service was terrible and when I recieved the monitor the DVI cable was clipped. In addition, on my friends monitor which he ordered Dell direct, the panel was cracked and it took over 6 weeks to recieve a replacement one. | October 25, 2006, 3:20 AM |
Stealth | I'm looking into the beautiful eyes of a Dell 2005FPW right now, and I love it. It's been lugged to LAN parties, left on most of the time, without so much as a hiccup. If you want US tech support on Dell systems, order them from their Small Business department. I'm not sure if you can get US tech support for Dell monitors if you buy them without an attached computer system, but my only experiences with Dell support have been reasonably smooth. | October 25, 2006, 7:38 PM |
Grok | CNET has a comparison of the 2005FPW with a couple others, including Viewsonic. http://reviews.cnet.com/Dell_2005FPW/4540-3174_7-31232082-4.html?tag=sub Looks like from the summary the Viewsonic is on top and the Dell on bottom. | October 25, 2006, 10:43 PM |

SNiFFeR | This is the one I have and it does the job fairly well. Although I haven't really compared other LCD's. | October 26, 2006, 1:45 AM |

KrewL RaiN | I have had this huge dell monitor for years with no problems, but starting to look into flat screen monitors now. Kinda want more desk space xD There computers on the other hand, I learned to hate them from experience and it led me to building my own comp. I'll be poking around with these links. A tablet monitor would be cool for art but might not have the money for one of those hehe. | October 26, 2006, 6:09 PM |

JoeTheOdd | 1. Who needs tech support on a monitor anyhow? 2. I use a Dell.. something or another monitor that came with my box a few years ago. It serves me well and I don't see any reason to replace it. | October 31, 2006, 5:28 PM |

KoRRuPT | Holy fuck, that CRT is 473.95! | November 1, 2006, 12:33 AM |
Grok | Just ordered Viewsonic VX2025wm. My priorities for selection were first price, then performance. I just need something adequate for WoW and programming. The 1680x1050 resolution is approximately what I use on my 21" CRT, which I'm just tired of lugging up and down stairs. | November 3, 2006, 4:04 PM |
inner. | I perfer Sony. I'd had my 21" slick look monitor for about 2-3 years now and it hasn't caused me not 1 trouble. I love it. | November 4, 2006, 2:05 AM |
FrOzeN | I just got the ViewSonic VX2235wm and it is awesome to use! Especially with my previous monitor being 17" flatscreen CRT. No dead pixels or any problems that I've come across. Works incredibly well with FEAR (highest settings, patch v1.08 supporting widescreen), and CSS also looks great on it. I tried Battlefield 2 (demo) running it at 1280x960 as it doesn't support widescreen, and this resolution still looks really good on, the stretch isn't noticeable. I also opened up a few dvds on it and the quality looked awesome compared to what I've seen them as before. So far it definately feels like a great buy! :D I also got a basic keyboard, and the Razor Copperhead Tempest Blue mouse which works beautifully. The only downside to the mouse is because my old mouse wasn't that sensitive I had the settings up real high, and the switch made my new mouse's sensitivity so high that moving it less than a centimetre would move the cursor across the entire 1650x1080 screen corner to corner. So it took about 10 minutes of adjusting and testing in games until I got it setup. | November 4, 2006, 11:33 AM |
KoRRuPT | Nice selection, I currently have two VX2235wm's, they work great! | November 4, 2006, 7:03 PM |
