Grok | Hahahahaaha, that's great. Companies trying to sell the information of how to turn off a service! | June 6, 2003, 11:59 AM |
Thing | Maybe if he sends me $99.99 this week only, I'll tell him how to turn of directory indexing. >:D http://www.howtodisablemessenger.com/images/ | June 6, 2003, 2:49 PM |

Yoni | +1 to Thing. That's just... awesome. 8) | June 6, 2003, 3:55 PM |
Crypticflare | lol thats great. To bad if you view source you can get to the next link without paying :/. I'll charge you a piece of terryaki beef jerky to get in on the deal! | June 6, 2003, 4:06 PM |
Thing | I keep my 10% from Grok and charge him $5.49 for pointing out that he's on an Apache box, not IIS. | June 6, 2003, 6:00 PM |
Grok | Hehe whatever. I gave you +1 since Yoni said he would, but didn't. | June 6, 2003, 6:06 PM |
Yoni | I did! -1 to Grok. | June 6, 2003, 6:51 PM |

iago | I guess the irony is that they are the only ones I've ever been spammed by (every time I install windows, they are the first to send me a message to force me to disable messanger service) | June 7, 2003, 1:35 AM |
MesiaH | whats most funny of all, is that its common sense to disable services, i dont see how anybody could not know how to do it... Everytime i restart my computer, around once a week or two, i always run msconfig, disable startup processes, disable services, scan registry, and other precautions to ensure the best that my crappy system can provide, but i find it absolutely hillarious that they would charge somebody to disable a service, which takes a total of 10 seconds to perform. Maybe they should look more into blocking port 135 on windows xp and windows 2000, which is a HUGE vulnerability, that allows people to connect, send massive amounts of bull shit, causes svchost.exe to crash, and forces a restart. I think thats worth some money.. (As are firewalls :P) | June 12, 2003, 7:46 PM |

Thing |
I think thats worth some money.. (As are firewalls )
Firewalls?? Firewalls are for sissies who are afraid of the Big Bad Wolf. What good is a firewall going to do you if somebody exploits a vulnerability through a purposefully open port? The end result is the same with or without a firewall, they got root and you got the shaft. | June 12, 2003, 9:11 PM |
Yoni | That's why I said "firewall/router". Many routers call themselves firewalls to sell better. A hardware device that acts as a firewall but not as a router sounds pretty stupid... | June 12, 2003, 9:54 PM |

If somebody wants to hax0r me, I unplug my crossover cable from the back of my computer and they hit my firewall! | June 12, 2003, 10:30 PM |
Thing | Iago I'm going to hax0r your computer at 10:00 p.m. Central. Yoni I modified my previous post to clarify my response. It just my opinion that Zone Alarm, Black Ice Defender, etc. are a waste of money. Of course I'm looking at it from a different perspective than most people. I think a well configured and maintained box is much better. | June 13, 2003, 12:05 AM |

Yoni | Ah, yes, I agree with that. Some people I know use firewalls - warez of course. No money wasted, and they're better off using that than learning how to configure things properly. | June 13, 2003, 9:54 AM |

I don't remember the name they had now, something like "filtering switch". It's like a router/firewall except it doesn't use up an IP. | June 14, 2003, 11:00 AM |
Noodlez | Before every advertisment company started using messenger service, Skywing and Yoni attacked me with it! | July 9, 2003, 10:18 AM |

Adron | Well, it should amount to extortion. What's the penalty for that? Any chance of a death penalty for the VP? Extortion does bring criminal charges, right? | November 8, 2003, 1:46 AM |
