Can someone please give me a reliable and effective spyware/adware remover?  It's getting out of control on my computer and makes it almost impossible to surf the net (even with FireFox).  I also just reformated ~week ago, so I don't feel like going through that again.

I'm simply amazed that you've managed to screw the hell out of your computer in a week.

I can guarantee you reformatting will go quicker than installing anti-malware software and cleaning up your box.

Anyhow, go with Ad-Aware SE Personal and ClamWin.

personally, i only use Spybot and SpyWareBlaster. just run a spybot scan, and after you're done, Immunize. also turn on SpywareBlaster. it helps.

Webroot is ok. You can get a copy of it off www.download.com

Hitman Pro 2.3.3

It takes an hour at the least, but runs like 5+ different Spyware/Adware removal programs.

It'll download the latest installer, update them, and then run each of them.

Among the programs it runs are Ad-Aware, SpyBot, and a bunch of others.

If you don't mind waiting and you have an internet connection... it's somewhat overkill for someone who doesn't get spyware/adware... but runs weekly scans anyways (i.e. myself).

Else just use in conjunction with each other SpyBot S&D and Ad-Aware, also you might want to DL and run CCleaner.

First, I don't suggest Ad-Aware SE Personal, because you can go get Professional from limewire, easily. As if they haven't made enough money for a tool which should be free anyhow. Besides, pro has real-time anti-spyware.

Same with ClamWin. It's great, being open source and all, but for the same reson (real-time protection), I've chosen Avast anti-virus.

Personally, I use Spybot S&D, although I've had good experiences with Ad-Aware in the past (although, they have gotten some bad rap, but I don't know why). As for anti-viruses, which you DEFINATELY need if you're getting that much spyware, I use Avast.
