Is it at all possible to access data from another partition on a hard drive while being on a different partition using Windows? I ask this because my Linux partition is ruined. A friend decided to help me upgrade my Ubuntu system, and after rebooting by his request, the system would no longer load. It would stay stuck at "Booting kernel". I know it was stuck because I let it sit like that for over 8 hours, and it never changed. I have a very important document that I cannot afford to lose. As of now, I cannot figure out a way to access the Linux partition from Windows. Any ideas?

Don't?  It'd be much easier to use a Knoppix LiveCD to boot the system and recover the file that way.  Or just restore it from the backup you made just before making such a major change to your system.

Have you tried selecting the prior kernel instead of the one your friend installed?

Thanks, Kp, however my problem has been solved, a friend suggested I use a Live CD as well.

For future reference, you can access your Linux file systems if they are Ext2 or Ext3 from Windows 2000 and Windows XP by using the installable file system driver EXT2IFS.
