I look at DoS attacks as some child throwing a temper tantrum. It is an annoying way for some kid to get attention. Everytime I have to deal with one, I visualize the attacker as Buthead saying "Hu hu hu hu, look at me, I did a DoS. Hu hu hu hu".

I pretty much think of some kid who has too much time on his hands. Somebody who's too immature to do anything else.

I think back to around 5-6 years ago when any one of us would've been giddy with delight at a new alternative to nuking. :-D

Don't get me wrong. Different types of DoS attacks are great fun the first time you do them. But it takes very little skill and gets boring after the first few minutes. Setting up a virtual private network, spanning multiple states, that you can administer from the comfort of your own home in your jammies, while getting paid is more fun.
