Not too far away from me :).  Was actually at a shop in the next town over (home of the first 9 second Supra) for a long time getting a lot of work done where I saw it many times, but it's out now :)

Wow! Those things are expensive to bring over here. Which year/model/etc. is it? If it's a V-SPEC II, it probably cost around 100 grand to have legalized.

I don't think it's a V-SPEC II.  It's a Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R, I think it's an 02?

R34 GT-R V-SPEC II (new) cost around 95,000 and R34 GT-R is 93,000.  While used is about 88,000 and 78,000, respectively

Asian isn't Europe.  I've never heard of euro lights, I think you read too many Chevy magazines with your American made truck.  Oh, by the way, that specific Skyline has close to 800-900 WHP with all the work it's got done to it

Those cars that have the clear lights & odd body kits are reffered to as euro cars, I know they aren't actually FROM europe.

I don't read chevy magazines cause I have a ford, I don't read magazines cause I have the internet.

Call me a cynic if you want, but I prefer my cars to be made of sheet metal, rather than plastic/fiberglass.  I am also unimpressed by 1/4 mile times.  It may very well be a fast car, but that speed means nothing to me without endurance to back it up.  Driving it a straight line just seems so anti-climactic to me... oh well.

What do you mean by endurance to back it up?  These cars are not only fast, but they are extremely nice on the inside like some "luxury" old people cars.

What plastic and fiberglass?

By the way, that specific car is used for daily driving as you see it in the pictures outside the owner's shop in Chicago

The skyline GT-R is a beautiful car. And yeah that's not a body kid, that's how they look. First off the skyline's a very powerful car, endurance? You're kidding man, the skyline is a car for all purposes, it just gets places faster then any car. It's also AWD, and all-around amazing. :) I'll tell you one thing, if I had a skyline it would never be brought out in the winter, no way. But the right-side driver must be a bitch to get used to.

1/4 mile in 14 seconds isn't very special. My brothers focus runs it in 14.6, while the new STi & Evo run constant high 12's low 13's.

Skylines are 10 second cars, easily.

EDIT:
General consensus is that the Skyline does the ¼ miles in 13.7 seconds which is what I'd guess, was released by Nissan or some other well noted car testing company

I'd bet so...the most 'adrenaline rush' event I've ever experienced on a bike wasn't that crazy, but got my heart goin.  My dad was riding around our field with me on back when I was like 7 yrs old & the bike slipped on the wet grass & we slid, it was VERY funny to tell my mom

I remember I was driving an ATV down a rather nice dirt road (not too many bumps / rocks that is) and for some reason I drifted to the side and hit a rather large rock, which caused the atv to start sliding, and then flip (though by that time it was going 40).  I was thrown off and rolled into a ditch.  Amazingly I only had a few bruised - no cuts, no broken bones.  The rush from it was insane.

I wouldn't want that car, nor would I want to drive it. (In reference to original post.)

I've been thinking about what car I want recently - mainly because my mom asked me what 'realistic' car I want. (Meaning, not a Porsche) All the ones I've been thinking about I've ended up learning that that either the car or the company doesn't have a good track record or they're hard to work on, etc. Hm.

If you want a car built by a high quality company which is extremely realistic (don't take this the wrong way, anybody, but it's from Japan), then Nissan or Honda is for you.  They are not hard to work on.  What do you mean by track record?

Curious, what kind of car do you want?  I'm currently driving a Pontiac ..., but that was handed down from my mom, to my brother, and to me after two transmission changes, busted engine mount, various other issues under the hood, and 60,000 miles later.

Edit:  If you're talking about the Buick, I'm sorry for this post

I doubt I'll be getting one from a Japanese company, since those are pretty much Fords main competition - and my dad works for Ford/has stock in Ford/wants Ford to do well, etc. The plan was for me to get my moms car and then she'd get a new one, but I don't know if that's still going to be it. I'm not really sure what I have to spend on one, and I don't really care too much right now since I don't get my license until October. I guess when I get an amount I'll be able to find one easier. I had wanted a Land Rover, but I heard that some people ended up putting more money into them for repairs than they actually paid, etc. That sorta thing.

Yeah, an '06 or '05... I think trust would be fine with a nice V6 3.8l mustang, there good cars, and they're not slow either.. I have a friend who drives one.. Also, getting a V6 is smarter. While other people with those GT's are spending crazy money on insurance for there V8, and crazy money on gas because we all know how V8's are on gas, you're spending less money on insurance for your V6, and less money on gas. And yeah a GT is faster, but throw a vortech supercharger into your V6 and you won't have much of a competition.  :)

I'm highly doubting my parents will let me get a Mustang. I know my mom won't let me get any sportsy car (she's overprotective and I have a lead foot). And, unless we get a really good deal, I'm almost certain I won't be getting a new car.

I've never understood the calling of a Skyline. Shit, it looks like some riced out Civic.

I'll take a Camaro SS, thank you very much. For 80 grand or whatever you pay for a Skyline, you can get better performance anyway.

Trust, they have used 05 mustangs, go for it!

Technically, I think the Civic body kit things are made to make the Honda look like a Skyline.

I think a $10k Camaro w/ $70k in mods would out perform a stock $80k Skyline anyday of the week.

Camaros are nothing special. If you are going to spend 80k on a car screw camaro, screw skyline... either get a nice vintage car, like a dodge challenger (69ish) or get a new car that is already really nice.

One of the things about a skyline owner is the respect factor, when you drive a skyline you get much more respect then you would if you drove that camaro. And, what can you do thats worth $70k to a camaro? You can't even mod it that much.

UserLoser:  Is this whole thread about a car you are actually going to buy?

And to everyone, drop this Japanese are this, Americans are that thing.  I can just as easily show you crap cars from the USA, Japan, Korea, Italy, and France, as I can show you excellent cars from those places.  Evaluate each car individually, not by the nationality of the people who make it.

Pllus, what makes "the best car" depends on "how correctly these cars match your individual needs".  Price, performance, comfort, maintenance, looks, size, features, all sorts of things make a car right for you.  The "Best Car in North America" is not the same car for everyone purchasing a car in North America.

For me, it is the 2004 Volvo s60 R, by all those factors and more.  The Skyline may be faster, but so are hundreds of other cars.  In my Volvo, I will walk away from an accident twice as bad as one that the Skyline driver will die in.  Now how much better is the Skyline that you're dead?

Archon: You have your head on straight.
Crazed: Obviously a Camaro with $70k done to it will beat an ALL STOCK Skyline.  By the way, you need pockets deeper than 80 grand if you want a new Skyline.  Used go for ~30-40 grand.
Everyone else: I'm not saying this is the best car ever, older Camaros are nice indeed, but you need to understand that the Skyline not some little toyish Japanese car which is a waste of money.  It also beats probably all the cars everyone on this forum has in features, handling, speed, quality, performance, etc.

Edit:

Maybe some day, Grok.  This thread is originally about the blue Skyline in Chicago, so wherever it came to now isn't my fault, I'm just replying to others.  Perhaps I should have defined what best and midwest mean in the topic of this thread.

I'm six foot four and have a size fourteen shoe, I think my foot is just heavier than most. Plus, as I've gotten more comfortable driving - I've gotten more comfortable at higher speeds. It was pouring down rain during my driving test and I didn't slow down or anything to compensate, and that's why I ended up getting a C. (Highest he would give us was a 'B,' as "nobody is a perfect driver.") Also, I don't really pay attention to my speed.

Anyways, this thread is orginally from www.clubrsx.com in the midwest forum.  Those people are obviously for putting money into cars, making them look nice, street racing, etc.  The term "best" in this thread is defined as: best for a street race.  Sure, the Skyline is probably one of the best cars to use in a street race, but it still has good performance overall for driving anytime, anywhere: AWD, handling, 6 speed, great acceleration, high top speed, etc.  Like mentioned above, best car is probably defined as what is good for you.

[/quote] Well first we must realize the truck was worth about 2 grand. I did about 2 grand worth of damage. So yes the truck was totaled. The tree was rather large. We were able to sell the truck for about a grand (I owed a grand to my dad after that) and the guy who bought it was able to completely restore for cheap because he owns a body shop. He resold the truck for 2500 or so.

yar... driving a truck is more fun than anything else. Trucks have no blind spots, you can do a lot with them, and yes you can go over things. I loved my truck to death... I just wish it had an extended cab. I had a tool box to throw my backpack in and all. I was gonna put an amp and subs below the seats cos I had no other place to put them. Now I drive a buick and I dont even have an amp and subs because I am cheap / poor.
