... or should.  Biting my nails.  I've done it all my life, I get it from my family.  I don't really have any reason not to, or to stop, but eh, what the hell?

So NO MORE NAIL BITING.  GG.

*gets hungry*

Haha, that won't help.  I credit my less-than-sanitary eating habits for my extra good immune system.  I figure that if I expose myself to just a little bit of harmful stuff by biting my nails and not washing my hands before I eat (but I DO wash my hands after bathrooming, gg), my immune system is ready for whatever crap is out there in the world :)

And in terms of it being impossible -- it probably is, since I don't usually even realize I'm doing it.  I'm thinking hard about something and it just kinda happens.

I figured if I post it here, it'll give me a reason to actually put effort into it since there's no real physical reason to stop.

I do that, but I don't consider it a bad thing.  It keeps my teeth clean.  Especially two of my back teeth which catch food really bad, I always have to dig stuff out.  Toothpicks, fingers, mechanical pencil (with no lead sticking out, of course) -- self performed dentristry is fun.

I should have made a "post your habits" thread.  Hmm!

And yeah, I've made them bleed before, but that's not so bad.  It's never caused a serious problem, and as far as I know there's nothing bad about it.  But I figure I need a reason to stop, and posting it on the forum makes pride a good reason :)

I've noticed that people who are obsessively clean get sick a lot more than people who aren't.  I attribute it to either building up more resistance or they're killing important stuff that keeps you from getting sick.

I tend to bite my nails while at my computer, watching a movie, or driving.  So far I've been at my computer since 1pm (4 hours ago) (minus a drive to the bank) and I'm fine.  Although it takes conscious effort.  I'm sure that before long I'll give up automatic control and have to start over the counting.  But we'll see!

And yeah, I pick fluff out of my belly button all the time.  I wouldn't call it a habit, though, I just like to keep it clean. :)

I hate washing my hands with soap and water, that's why I use hand sanitizer and have it next to my sink, on my desk, in my debate box, in my bookbag, etc.  It does kill good germs though, which isn't good - but I just feel better when I use it. I shower everyday, but sometimes on Saturdays or whatever if I'm in a really lazy mood I won't. Unless I'm going off, then I will of course.

I actually semi-exagerrated about the hand sanitizer. I did have 4 bottles. Two germ-x, one perosnal dial, and one in my bathroom. (My parents are losers and use HAND SOAP in their bathroom, wtf?) But, my germ-x one is really low, and I filled the other one up with some stuff on a teachers file cabinet @ debate and gave it to my debate coach. So, now I have one bottle of germ-x which WAS on my desk but I took it with me to chuck e cheese (thank god I did too.) and I have my dial personal in my debate box now (there was a germ-x bottle in there, but htat's now my debate coaches as I said.) But that dial one is empty, and it's my bookbag bottle so bleh. However, my sink bottle is pretty full so before SB is over I'll refill my personal dial and put it in bookbag.

I also carry brush ups in my bookbag, those are life savers.

As with most hard things in life, the beginning is usually the hardest, until you get into a habit.

Hmm, it's been 5 days.

I've noticed that since I have sorta nails growing, I end up with dirt and black stuff stuck under them so I have to scrape them out every day.  Having nails seems pretty unsanitary.  :-/

[/quote]heh, i use my knife to clean them out during camping trips, at home, at work, & when w/ friends

???why would it be dull?  A dull knife is an unsafe knife.  I just use the tip to clean under my nails

The knives that I have made are really sharp. Hold paper in mid air, slowly lower blade to edge of paper, keep on going, there should be no bends in the paper and it should have cut it in half.

You must do a lot of dirty work to have to clean your nails every day. I do it every week on sunday.

If you really want to quit, I've significantly reduced nail biting by chewing on a pen.

I used to bite my finger nails, and pick at my toe nails with my fingers. Like, similar to biting them, but just picking them till theyre short.

My toe problems were fixed recently when I broke my middle toe, and couldnt put pressure on it. That just ended my toe nail picking problems all in all.

I still bite my fingernails... ive decided i cant stop. Meh. Its weird though, I dont do it when Im around people that I know I shouldnt do it around, like girls etc..

I thought it MIGHT have been an attempt at a joke based around injuring your fingers.  Or maybe you just had a horrible accident :P

I've drank?  drunken?  drinked?  food once I think.  It was whatever was left over from my oat meal in my cup.  I washed it out w/some hot water & took a sip then dumped the rest on the ground (this was camping)

Hmm, it's been about 11 days or so.  I sorta bit a nail today, but I cut it uneven last night and it was driving me crazy for the last few hours.  It was a single controlled bite that was to remove an annoyance, and I totally don't count it :)

It's kinda weird, actually, it's not really a thought anymore.  I can watch a movie or try to figure out a problem without automatically biting.  I used to have to consciously think about it but I don't anymore :)

Why didn't you cut the uneven part evenly?

I was at school.  It was noon.  I had been getting annoyed at it since 8am, and I wasn't planning on being home till 6pm.

When you say biting your nails, do you actually mean biting? I scratch or tear my nails at times. I don't find my teeth being sharp enough to actually cut through my nails easily.

So, scratching and tearing them doesn't count as chewing nails? I don't need to quit? Woohoo! :P

Have you tried scratching at them til you get a start and then tearing them? It's very satisfying...

No, but I keep clippers on my desk.  Having any length of nail bothers me, so I constantly clip them.
