The idea of running it in a window is that you can have other things on your desktop at the same time. If you want it to take up the full screen, don't run it windowed. | March 25, 2005, 1:32 PM |
Lenny | Perhaps he's trying to say he wants to have a larger viewing area for starcraft. This would enable him to see more of the map and gain an advantage (cheating). Or he might just want sharper resolution for starcraft. I don't believe it's possible. | March 26, 2005, 12:18 AM |
Soul Taker | If you use a desktop resolution larger than 1024x768, then running SC in a window of that size is better than having a very tiny playable window. | March 26, 2005, 1:07 AM |
xbobobear | well i have a really big monitor and i set my desktop to 1600 x 1200.... but the windowed mode of sc is only 640 x 486 ...... damn , cant see anything ... anyone know how to make the windowed mode resolution bigger? so i can chat and play? | March 26, 2005, 10:15 PM |
Kp | You can always chat and play. If the windowed mode is too small, consider not running it in windowed mode! Alternately, you could change your desktop resolution to something more reasonable. If you haven't figured it out from everyone else's comments by now, I'll summarize: Starcraft does not natively support running in a window and can not be made larger without extensive code hacks. DxWnd and ScWnd convince Starcraft not to become full screen, but it's still limited to a 640x480 canvas. Fixing that limitation will require identifying and changing all the places in the source where they assume a 640x480 screen. This falls into the category of "unreasonably hard": a class of problems that, while theoretically solvable, are so much trouble that they're not even close to being worth the effort. | March 26, 2005, 11:16 PM |
Adron | Actually, there might be a shortcut. If you could tell Starcraft to draw to the overlay surface of your graphics card, and your graphics card supports hardware stretching that to any area on screen, it could be done with a minimum of trouble. Do you see any flaws with that idea? | March 27, 2005, 2:33 AM |
Kp | Well, it'd be ugly, but it seems workable. I still think the fundamental idea of running Starcraft windowed is rather silly though. :) | March 27, 2005, 3:21 AM |
That is ridiculous... I have a big monitor and mine is only at 1280 x 1024.... | March 28, 2005, 2:57 AM |
KkBlazekK | I have big monitorS both at 1792 x 1344. Thats not ridiculous, I can have many windows open, and use them all without tabbing. They both can go to 2048x1536 max. | March 28, 2005, 3:11 AM |
Arta | I use 1600x1200 too (19" CRT). It's nice to have lots of space! | March 28, 2005, 1:09 PM |
Zakath | I don't know what I'd do with that much space. I use a 19" CRT also, and I have it on 1024x768. Granted, I have my windows split across two monitors, so the total space is 2048x768, but STILL. | March 29, 2005, 2:07 AM |

Kp | You're supposed to use ScWnd for Starcraft. Also, you really can't expect to get the UI to come through unscathed with the amount of trauma that has to be inflicted to window-ize it at all. | April 1, 2005, 9:30 PM |
